Spectra MPL

Post by kb0nly »

Anyone know if the Spectra firmware has to be a certain number to make the MPL feature work, or is it related to the control head?

I was trying to get it working on two VHF radios but gave up, one has an A7 head, not enhanced just standard, the other has an A4 standard.

I've never found one that wouldn't support it (well, one... a pre-alpha development radio that I have). Have you:

Enabled MPL radio-wide?
Enabled a button for MPL?
Defined a list of available MPLs?
Activated the MPL type per channel (mode options... TXPL only, RXPL only, or both)?

In radio wide where it says number of MPL's it shows "not avail" and you can not select it, it just jumps past it to the next item.

So.. I can set a button for MPL, but i can't define a list, when i try to enter the MPL list it says "feature not available".

And of course i can't set the MPL type per channel because the feature is not available.

I think MPL is available by twiddling with the MOFLAGs... sounds like you need to go rewrite a few bits.

That's what i was wondering, i was reading through the pages on batlabs that talk about moflags and spectra hacking, but i couldn't find any info on MPL there.

On another sorta related note, is it possible to send DTMF tones from the keypad on the A7 Spectra, or is that a big no?

Go in the phone mode, and use mode to select KEYPAD.

There's some MPL/Moflag info towards the end of this thread...

Not absolutely sure, but I seem to remember that only ver 3.2 something and higher were capable of MPL. For sure, ver 4 and higher all are.

MPL on a Spectra A5

Post by Jimfire »

How do I figure out the version of my A5?

When I try to enable MPL, the RSS says "option not available".

I'm not sure if I'm up to dwiddleing with the moflag bits.

Is there an "easier" way to get the MPL working?

Has to be done though Moflags, no exceptions

Moflags

Post by Jimfire »

OK, I have read the Moflags hack article. I haven't hacked a hex file before, but I am NOT AFFRAID! Maybe I should be.

How do I go about getting the hex file in the first place?

Turn the radio on. As soon as the SELF CHK message goes away and the radio displays the home channel, press the HOME button five times within two seconds. The display will then go into a diagnostic / test mode. It will display the system firmware revision and the serial number. You can turn the radio off and then back on to get out of this mode.

As far as editing the MoFlags, you need the lab version of the programming software to do any kind of hex-editing or bit-banging. Per the rules of this BBS, you can't ask for it and no one here has it to give.
