Motorola BRAVO frequency/format questions

Post by d119 »

Recently picked up a BRAVO pager at a swapmeet that has no tags on the back.

The receiver board in it is an NRD7214A. There is a crystal with a white cap on it that says 17.900 20J08 KSS 8902, and there is a crystal with a white shroud around it that says 158R7000.

Not knowing anything about these, is this a VHF pager on 158.7000MHz?

Scrolling through test mode, the CAP code is 556064F, then 0000000, then 051000. Is it POCSAG or Golay?

Thanks for any help.

Thanks TPG.

Might be fun to recrystal it to the amateur band and get a Golay encoder. Who makes one that's small and easy to work with?

Also, whats the best way to go about recrystallizing Motorola pagers and retuning them? Is there a procedure somewhere I can read?
