Saber Convertcom, SVA/AVA Question

Post by BikerScout »

What are the differences between these items? Which one would you buy if given the chance? Did they make anything like this for other model? Are they water resistent, water proof?

Differences- Not much, I believe the AVA has a different pinout for the speaker/mic connector then the SVA, other then that the only difference is the stickers.

Which one?- Depends what your using for a radio....Regular Saber or an ASTRO?

Other ones?- If your asking did tey make Vehicular Adaptors for other radios, yes they did, theres the MTVA for Jedi's, XTVA's for the XTS line, MVA for the MT1000, and theres the older MX and STX Convertacoms, theres probably more then that too.

Water Resistant?- No, I don't think so, not unless you have the "R" ruggedized version.

They have them for the HT1250 1550's. I have one for my truck, its good if you have a radio system where you can hit the repeater with a portable always. Around here you need a little more than 4W. I took the convertacom and was going to use it as a mobile repeater, then i sold it. Just dont leave your radio in there all the time or you will cook your battery.

Come to think of it, I did see one for the HT1250 one time. Now if I can remember the name/part # of it.
Did they ever make one for the P1225 series radio?

I don't think I've ever seen or heard of one for the P1225 (or any Radius for that matter) They could exist, but I don't beleive so.

Well, the P200 would work in a HT600/MT1000 MVA, but I've never seen anything for
the later Radius radios.

The radio would need to have the right contacts, so if the radio uses miniplugs for the speakermic, it almost certainly does not have a convertacom made for it.

I know of convertacoms going back to the HT220, but it required a special model with a set of contacts on the front, under the speaker.. I think it was the Universal model.

There was also one for the MT500, and the previously mentioned MX/STX, etc.

There were mobile chargers made for even more radios, including the MH10/Handi-Com.

A P200 is more or less a Genesis in a different case intended to be a "substitute" for the HT600 to be sold in Moto shops that only carried the Radius line.

And, yes your right they have them going back to the HT220, heh, I seen one this weekend actually
