Radio install for a 2005 Ford Escape

Post by greenline »

I am at a loss as to where to install radios in my 2005 Escape. It has a floor shifter instead on steering column. In my 2001 Escape I had a midland and a GE radio on the floor but with this vehicle I am going crazy where to put them. I also have a Motorola maratrac I could use also for my low band. Anyone have any Ideas .
Thanks,
ERS

Hey ERS,

I have a 06 Ford Escape Hybrid with the same problem. I currently have a Kenwood TK-880 mounted to the passenger side of the floor shifter hump. It is thin enough not to bother the passenger, as well as still allows me to read the alpha display. I also have a Icom 2720 remote mounted under the seat, with the control head in the location where the eyeglass holder is overhead. I know that;s not much of an option for the maxtrac, however it is a start! I also know ther some people have used a pole mount on the passenger side, and use that to rackmount all of their equipment. Another possible location if you do not mind giving up the storage is inside the center console. The area inside the armrest allows for a radio as well as misrophone to be slipped right in, somewhat of a covert install. You still have the glovebox, as well as both of the side doors, and the pockets behind the seats for all of your other stuff.

I will try to get some pictures up if you would like, hope this helps out!
