Well, they "do" the same thing...they both allow you to program radios. The difference is RSS almost entirely DOS based. The only two Windows based packages that are considered RSS are the MTR2000 & 1225 series.
When Motorola finally decided to abandon DOS and go with Windows for all future radio products, they changed the name of it to CPS...for reasons only they know.

It's been out since June or so...news of it was posted here several times. It's available for download from MOL free of charge for dealers, no need to update your subscription. It is now "version 4.0". Works like a charm on both XP & 2000.motorola_otaku wrote:Speaking of, whatever happened to the alleged upgraded version that would run in XP? Yes, I mentioned that in my post above.grem467 wrote:also dont forget that even the latest version of 1225 software for windows is still called RSS
You're right about that of course...I tend to only think of the North American market for these sorts of things, as it's all I have experience with.mr.syntrx wrote:Actually, a whole bunch of euro/aspac radios (mainly MPT1327 gear) have Windows software that Motorola calls RSS.

Ah, I see that now. Is the part # still HVN9054D? MOL is telling me no such part exists.. though it also doesn't give me the option for any software and I've held the license for upwards of a year.wavetar wrote:It's been out since June or so...news of it was posted here several times. It is now HVN9054E...I get a hit for "HVN9054D" on MOL when I do a catalog search, but it tells me it's been replaced by "HVN9054E", which is correct. Not sure why it doesn't show for you.motorola_otaku wrote: Ah, I see that now. Is the part # still HVN9054D? CPS = Customer Programming Software
It's like "New and Improved" Which always begged the question, if it was new, how could it be improved?
I think it can best be summed up wtih the phrase "Intellegence everywhere."

Yeah, we know what the acronyms stand for. Funny how it changed to having "Customer" in the name, yet became much more difficult for actual customers to obtain.
