Helper T-201 Toner

Post by RoDnSuE »

I picked this up in an estate sale but can't find any info about it. Was it used for PL tone generation or what? Anyone know where to download a manual. Helper was bought out by Zetron and they don't provide any info on equipment this old.

Thanks,
RoD

I've got an old Helper catalog here, it only has the toner II(T-202) and toner III( T-203) though. The 202 measures tones(50-9999Hz), the 203 adds a tone generator.

I would imagine the 201 is just an earlier version of the 202.
I'll look around and see if I can find an older catalog.

Thanks Jack,
I don't really think it would be a very useful piece of equipment but was just wondering what it's purpose was.
It only has three switches "direct", "X10", and "X100", 2 BNC jacks, 1 for "counter" and 1 for "input" and a "lock" LED.
I couldn't really figure out what it could be used for.

Well if you want to measure something in that frequency range I guess it would be useful, it'll do PL, and maybe voting system guard tone, QCII or paging tones.. you'd have to try it on those to see how well it would work.

From what I can tell, it's main feature is that it would measure PL tones with .1 Hz resolution with a fast display update, normally for a counter to get that resolution each measuremet takes at least 10 seconds, but this thing would update several times a second (I don't recall the exact spec).

Many years ago, when I was first getting into the radio biz, we had one of those hooked into a scanner discriminator so we could determine what tones were being used on repeaters so we wouldn't accidentally put a new user on an existing PL.
I don't belive they do anything else besides decode tones. It has been a long time since I saw one of those things.
Best of luck in your search for a manual.
