My stx H35JNC5170CN will not take the lab rss version "may not down grade". I heard there is a way to trick the radio but no details. Any help would be greatfull.

Hi:
In order to see if your radio
can be changed, you must 1st look
at the Firmware in the radio.
If you take the radio apart, and look
at the controller board, if its " Green"
in color, thats a good indication, also
look at the IC which has a small sticker
with a ~//~ trademark on it. If its 1.0
and is on a Green Board, then you should be
able to change it around as needed.
If its any other color other than green, chances are pretty slim you cna make any
changes unless the Firmware has been changed.

Placing a shorting wire from X to X when
power up, and then removing the short wire
will place the stx in a test mode. That way
you can view the ESN and the firmware

You need a new controller and that's all there is to it. A version 5.1 won't do type II.
You need to find any controller that does not begin with VER. Something like an REL series, GPL series, or GPS series is what you should try to find. Any of those will do the trick, with the software you have.
