I have had this R2002/HS in use for many years and it just wouldn't generate a signal the other day. It will measure power and all the display functions look normal. I put a spectrum analyzer on the rf output connector in generate mode and found out it is sweeping around. Maybe the VCO is not locking up. I tried it out at many frequencies and none worked. I traced it back with no manual to the A9 module RF cable. It plugs into the attenuator it appears. All DC voltages APPEAR to be there, as I have repaired the power supply once before.
I think at this point I need a manual or just find another R2001 or R2002 and swap A9 modules around to see if it is that module or not.
Anyone know where I can get a manual or have suggestions of what to try next?
The R2002DHS A9 is the RF synthesizer. The output at that RF cable should be on frequency at about -10dBm. It goes from there to the A17 where it is filtered, amplified and finally attenuated to the level required. The service manual has been NLA for years.
Since your A9 seems to be out of lock on all freqs, my best guess is a bad 60MHz loop subassembly (the A( has six subassemblies). Your best bet, contact Motorola's Test Equipment Service Depot (1-800-323-6967) or some other reputable service lab. That synthesizer isn't something you want to play with without the service manual, proper extenders and tools.
If you are going to look for a manual for that thing, you need to post the "alpha" series, is it a B, D, etc? There is a LOT of difference internally.
I may have a "manual" on CD that will do you some good, I'll look for it.
I also have an original (NOT a copy) of a service manual for a R2001C/ R2002C---I don't know exactly the difference between this "C" and the earlier models, but the manual is not correct for the later "D" series.
I just purchased an R2002D/HS off ebay. Supposed to be fully functional. Do any of you happend to have or know where I can get operations and service manuals?
