XTS2500 Keypad tones

Post by nickburns »

Under radiowide settings and Alert Tones, I've set the Mute Tones Operation to Keypad Tones but it does not mute the keypad tones at all. The only way I can get it to mute those tones is if I disable alert tones completely which I dont want to do? Any suggestions? Thanks

Got it.....

According to MSS, in order for the front keys to be muted, you have to have the mute softkey option enabled to accomplish this. That kinda sucks........

keypad mute

Hmm, thats strange. Whats the DSP and HOST of your 2500? I have plenty of them that do not have this issue. They keypad tones can be muted via the MUTE option on the menu, and other radio wide alert tones will still work.

Granted if yours is a model 1 or 1.5, thats a different story. But if you have a front keypad, I guess that rules that out.

DSP and HOST are latest. The radios just came in from /\/\ this week.
I realize I have to use the MUTE button to mute the tones but thought I could set the alert tones setting to mute keypad tones and not have to worry about using the mute button.

mute

As in permanently mute the keypad tones for all users, and not using the mute option on the menu?

You should be able to do this using the following method. Setup your codeplug with the mute option in the allowed options. Mute the keypad tones on the radio itself. Read the radio, and remove the MUTE option from the users available options, and save the codeplug back to the radio.

The plug should "remember" that the keypad tones are muted, and the user wont be able to re-enable them. You should still have the rest of your alert tones, (call alert, timeout, low battery, etc)

Try that process, should get the desired effect you are looking for. I just tried it works fine.

Cool

I'll give it a try but I've got quite a few radios to program so I'll just stick with the mute key option. Thanks for the help.

Save the plug back out of the radio you performed this on. The plug will remember to mute keypad tones. You can then use the clone feature of the CPS to put this in all of your radios. Dont have to do it manually, except on the first one.

No problem, glad to help
