Voice Storage on CDM1250

Post by n9upc »

I was able to get a voice storage board for nothing as someone had one but never used it for anything. It is a professional series storage board for the CDM or HT series.

So I cracked open the old CDM1250, installed it and programmed the radio. Porgramming seemed to take as it appeared to take a ll the programming and I could now scroll through the menu option and it showed voice storage options.

SO the main reason I go this board was mainly due to being able to record a page my radio Rx's for my ambulance service. Sometimes I get into a real poor area and my pager just does not cut it, however my mobile can Rx great. So I thought why not use it to help get my pages.

However, much to my dismay I have found that when a page goes off and dispatch talks this units does not record the page at all.

Has anyone ever used these boards and if so how do you program them for recording (voice storage) when the radio Rx a page???

I've never used one. Are you able to successfully record regular radio traffic?

Expecting to be able to configure a Professional Series radio with a voice storage board to act just like a Minitor SV seems like such a reasonable expectation doesn't it?

Unfortunately, we are trying to apply reason to /\/\ again.

There is no mode for the voice storage board that will allow it to only record incoming Call Alert / Sel Call audio. There are three basic voice storage modes:
1) Voice Memo- Just what we all need in a radio.
2) All Incoming- Will record all traffic on the channel, until the alloted record slots are filled. The number of slots can be programmed based on the board's total record time divided by slot length. Answering machine outgoing messages also tie up a slot. (see below)
3) Answering Machine- WTF was /\/\ thinking with this one? When you receive a Call Alert, it will play your outgoing "I'm not able to answer your call right now" message, and then record their bewildered reply.

The closest that I've been able to come to making the thing useful is to set up a pager channel with "and" signaling and manually enable "All Incoming" record.

Everyone that buys one of these seems to hope for SV pager functionality. I wish /\/\ would take the hint already and do a firmware update.

I guess I will have to play with the settings as I can set-up the radio as we use tones as well as PL on the channel evne though it is on the 152.0075Mhz paging channel.

In addition I also leave the radio just on that channel for paging purposes only.

I guess I am going to have to play with the settings. I agree that there is no need for an answering machine usage on my radio.

I know that I did do something with a TAIT radio and signalling in a trasnponder set-up that this would have worked good for about a year or two ago.

But I agree I do not need to have my radio get pagged and then my radio respond saying thanks for the page, good luck!

I just got the board for free and thought it might be nice to hear the page as my M5 will go off for the tones but I can not always here the dispatchers voice. Therefore I can run to the car and hear what the page was for.

I guess I shall go and play.
