Min IV SV pager-No Receive

Post by captrgm »

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced Min IV SV pagers with intermitant receive. If you squeeze the bottom of the pager housing, it will start to receive and drop out when you let go.

Thanks.

Well, I have had several M4 low band pagers (no SV) go intermittent on me; in fact I have one on the table I have to send back. Same as you describe, you squeeze it and it works, let go and it drops out.

I have disassembled a couple of them to see if it's a connector seating issue, or something simple.

But no. Back to the mother ship it goes.

IS it not alerting when it hears the tone or if you have it in monitor mode it will not Rx traffic at all???

My M4 would not alert for me at all, except when I would sometimes squeeze the housing.

Turns out that it was the audio decoding IC on the pager baord which was located behind the belt clip. Turns out the cold solider joints on the IC and board were popping off due to presure placed on the pager from opening the belt clip and putting it on your hip.

Just reflowed the joints on the IC to the board (about the top three pins on the IC on BOTH sides) put it all back together and bam no more problem.

However this fix will only fix it if it is having alerting issues only.

Sorry should have been more specific - no receive at all unless you squeeze the case near the speaker. I now have 2 out of 30 (one year old) that are down for this problem, and a couple of others that are suspect. I have disassembled them to see if it was anything like connector seating but alas, no.
