WTF! Spectra HRN6006C- HRN6006F Socket size change.

Post by richard61au »

Just changed over boards and discovered the coax socket has a smaller centre hole.Is there a work around apart from unsoldering the old socket onto the new one?

Yes, there are different coax connector types used in Spectras. You probally have the newer type. The older syle has the tin crimp one with the protruding center pin. The later ones are like a very miniture SMA push on, center pin inside the connector on the cable.

I think it would be easyer to change the cable. The jacks on the board are a real b---- to get off the board.

Thanks for your help Will.

Looks like surgery to swap jacks, that is unless there is a coax with one old pin on one end and a new one on the other that is available.

In the following posts there is a photo of a Spectra RF frontend deck with the old style connector on the injection cable, same as used on Maxtracs. Is this the one?

Sure is,that's the one.
Just as well I looked at mine.It appears I only need a new type(small pin)
coax with the plug only on one end and bear on the other so that it can be soldered to the RX front end.
Any ideas where I might be able to get one?
Or even the plug.
The coax I need is only about 4 1/2" long.

OK, Richard, the cable is a possibility. I will see what I have in the shop.

Richard,

I located a cable like the one in the photo. Where can I send it?

Will,

Went the desolder/solder route.
You were right, what a challenge!
Ended up using 2 soldering irons at once and that did trick.
So thanks for looking for the cable and appreciate your help.
Happy new year.

-Richard.
