OK, gang, I've done some research, and I'm totally confused.
I have a NTN1174A, which is the standard Jedi "shoe" charger. It came with one of my radios when I got it.
Both of my Jedi portables have after market NiMH packs on them. (1 2100 ma and 1 1800 ma if that matters at all)
I've done some searching through the archives on the board, and have seen both that it is safe and not safe to charge NiMH packs on this charger.
I don't want to blow up the packs on my Jedis before their time. Is this charger usable, or should I just bin it?
If it's not safe, what is better?
I'm probably weird compared to the rest of you. Sometimes my radios get used all day every day, sometimes they can sit for a week or more before they get used again.
I've been reading about the Impress system and it's not as bad to get into as I thought. Am I a good candidate for this on my radios?
Thanks in advance,
-Brent-

Your best bet is to find an "Intellicharge 2." This unit will safely quick charge NiCad or NiMH batteries, and if you use your batteries until you get a low battery indication, then leave them on the charger long enough to get the full 10 hour charge you should receive excellent service and battery life.
The only question is whether the aftermarket batteries you bought have the correct internal resistor to flag their type appropriately, but chances are that they do...

- What radios do you own?: HT1550's, X9000's, CDM1550's
i agree, definately go with a multiple chemistry charger and then you won't have to worry about anything.
