What are the major differences between the MT1500 and PR1500? They look like the same radio to me, except for the case color. Any clues on which one would be better for a fire department as far as durability?
Thanks for your input.
MT1500 and PR1500 ???

mt 1500 analog trunked and conventional channels- up to 48 channels. Not APCO 25 compatable.
pr 1500 32 conventional channels, upgradeable to p25 conventional- according to Motorola this radio is eligable for purchase using Homeland security grants.
Durability is going to be similar on these radios.

pr vs. mt
PR is VHF and UHF only, conventional only. MT is all the above, plus 800 and trunking.
They are both part of the Astro 25 family, so Ill bet youll notice no real difference. If you have no need for analog trunking, go with the PR.
From what Ive been told (stmills may have more updated info) neither is truly "flashport" upgradable. Meaning that what it leaves the factory with is what it has. Thats at least the story as of right now. Who knows what may be possible later.
You need an XTS line for upgrade capability later.
Maybe KS4VT will chime in on this one...

From the information I have seen on the PR1500 a software upgrade to make the radio P25 conventional will be available mid 2006, so I am of the belief that radios currently sold as conventional will be able to be upgraded through Motorola to be p25. I can not find any mention of the MT1500 having a p25 upgrade option.

Accesory Compatability?
Can the PR1500 be used with XTS2500 batteries, chargers, and speaker-mics?
