M10 (GM300) not powering up

Post by n1iic »

While testing a cable made from the accessory connector, I think I may have shorted the A+ to ground and now the radio does not power up.

Is it a doorstop, or can it be fixed?

Thanks

You mean you shorted the SWB+ line on the accessory connector? That would have popped the small pico fuse inside.

kb0nly beat me to it... Definitely check the fuse. Seen literally dozens of these.

Yes, it is the accessory connector. Thanks, guys.
Where might I find the information to locate the fuse? I am not familiar with these radios.

The short answer is "You can find the location in a GM300 service manual."

The useful answer is, it depends on the model number of the board. There are several. The fuse is located fairly close to the accessory connector on the top of the logic board. This is the board underneath the radio. It's usually shiny green, about the size of a 1/4 watt resistor. The notation F801 might be near it. It'll be just in front, and to the left, of the accessory connector. There might also be the notation IGN near it, since this is often removed for ignition control on some radios.

Find an HLN number on the board, give that to us, and we can be more precise with the location, possibly even give you a picture of the board layout with that fuse marked.

That was the ticket. It said "Clip for IGN control". It had power on one side and not the other.
I was so tired yesterday It didn't even think of checking it for grins and giggles.

Thanks, guys.
