MT2000, VHF Narrowband issue

Post by BPD109 »

Hey there, hi there, ho there,

Need some help pertaining with a MT2000, VHF A7, Firmware 2.00

I have read discussion (topics located by searching) on narrow band frequencies and firmware and how it pertains to the controller, but not a clear answer on what I need to do to make the following happen.

here is what I need:

Need to be able to program it up to take:
154.7925
158.9475
154.1825
155.6025

Well, all goes well until time to zap the radio and I get the error that tells me I need to upgrade firmware. Yay. Since this isn't an open controller, I have to replace it. Ready for that, BUT what I need to know is

Is there a revision of MT2K firmware that will allow me to put these frequencies in and be happy with it? If not, what do I need to do to get er done (do I need to find an MTS controller and turn the radio into an MTS or what?)

ANy help/ideas are welcome!

I just went through the same thing. I have owned MT2000s that would do the 2.5khz channels that you are trying to do. The last radio I had that would not do 2.5khz channels was version 2.06 and I was told by another batlabber that 2.12 or higher is the is the magic version to get. Motorola will do the upgrade at the depot for about $135.00 if my memory serves, but I just sold the radio and bought a couple of 2001 vintage MTS2000s that work great and do the 2.5khz channels. If you really like the radio, do the upgrade. It will then do the channels that you need. I went to the MTS2000s so that I could have DES-XL encryption and MDC1200 PTT-ID decode.
