HT1550 answering machine mode

Post by ku4zs1 »

Ok, I am a bit confused. The book that came with my HT1550 does not describe how the answering machine option works (must have added it after printing the book?) all it describes that is close is "When Available" which is completely different.

I went into voice storage and recorded the "greeting message" for the answering machine. I then turned Ans Mode On. I send a call alert from my maxtrac to the HT1550 and it beeps and keys up and send the Ack MDC burst, but then it holds the key down with the mic on the front of the radio "hot". I never hear the greeting message that I recorded. I thought it was supposed to key up and play that greeting (like an answering machine) and then listen and record the next transmission it hears as the message.

Other than what I said above, the call alert does get recorded into the "call stack" on the radio, which I clear out after every attempt at this. Also, the radio that I am using to page the HT1550 is not in the call list of the HT1550 (would that be a problem?), so instead of a name it just shows the MDC id of the other radio. Anyone know how to get this to work? Also, what is "blocking mode" and "silent mode"? (I guess silent mode just makes the radio not send a greeting, but still record a message from the other user right?).

Anyone? I know some of you guys have played with this feature... I have "When available" "blocking mode" and "silent mode" all turned off, and I can play back my "greeting" message just fine. Why would the radio just key up and hold the key down instead of sending the greeting?

I added the radio that I am using to page the HT1550 to the radio call list (to see if that made any difference) and it does not seem to do so. It is still just keying up and holding the key down.

I think that maybe there is a problem with the firmware on my radio. It is version R05.09.06 which I would have thought would be the latest, since I bought this new from a dealer that ordered it from M this past December. It has quite a number of bugs and one of them that I have noticed is that I cannot get the radio to retransmit a recorded message from the voice storage board. It says to just hold down ptt and then select the message to play back but it does not work. Perhaps, because of that, the greeting is not playing back during answering mode as well.

Whats the latest firmware for this radio and how much does it usually cost to get upgraded?
