Systems Saber Speaker Audio issue

Post by n9upc »

Greetings to all,

I have a VHF Systems Saber 3 that recently lost it audio from the front speaker. The radio still Tx's ok and when it is on a channel and Rx's it shows the red light blinking but no audio is heard out of the front.

In addition no function tones of the radio (scan on/off, monitor, etc..) are heard either.

I went and swapped the front speaker/mic assembly from a working Saber 2 I had with the SS3 and still no luck. However, the speak/mic out of the SS3 work good in the Saber 2 so I know it is not that.

I am trying to dig up a speaker/mic I have for the thingand will see then if thereis audio out the connector there.

However, in the meantime has anyone ever ran into this sort of thing before, and if so what is the fix???

What radios do you own?: What's a radio?

Most likely a bad audio PA (U102) with a slight possibility of a bad audio filter (U101).

I'll second Dave's response.

You may also try putting a slight crimp on the plug's leads, the sockets do wear out over time and you could just be plugging your front into a bad connection....it's worth a try and costs nothing.

Check for audio output while pressing the monitor button...place your meter on the socket and see what AC voltage you get with the volume 1/2 throttle as it were.

If nothing, you've got audio problems and you'll have to replace the controller board or borrow a hot air removal tool and pay Circle-M big $$$ for a couple of new devices.

U102 is the Audio PA

U101 is the Audio Filter

U700 is Signalling,encode/decode with MDC demod.Which also controls the Audio PA and Spkr/Mic selection as well.

Good luck!
