I have two HHCH Spectras which were programmed last week. No matter whether the mic is grounded or not the radio recieves carrier squelch all the time. The mon button on the upper left can be turn on or off and it still does the same thing. I am guessing that the HUB option is enabled in the programming. But if so shouldn't grounding the mic set it back to PL tone recieve only.
I guess I can proably change the HUB (HUB disabled) in the RSS and fix the problem. But isn't there something else wrong, sould grounding it fix the problem?
Also if I do disable the HUB in the programming then the radio will act as if it were "hooked" all the time right? PL decode all the time? No monitoring unless I press Mon? Right?
And when I hold down the SCN button for a few seconds it displays "SE" or "5E" and then you can press channel up and down and it will display channel 1 3 6 8 9 with the SCN light flashing fast. I am sure this is some sort of Scan feature, does anyone know how to work it?
Thanks

If you disable the HUB, then the radio should stay in PL mode on receive unless you use the MON button.
Perhaps the programming itself set CSQ for the receiver, rather than the PL you asked for.
Also, there are several methods that are (and were) used on mikes and actual hang-up boxes to enable/disable monitoring. Grounding the button on the back of the mike may not work in all situations. For example, some DTMF mikes have a second button in the middle that must be pressed in to close an internal switch. Some hang-up boxes have a switch built into them and they use two wires back to the control head or radio.
