mdt 9100-11 info needed

mdt 9100-11 info needed

I have a mdt-9100-11 and I need any info to operate this unit. service manuals or a couple of thoughts off the top of your head all are welcome.Would like to set up unit for packet use while mobile. If that can not be done any info on programming or what system it runs on.IF no use for the electronics(processer etc.) can it be set up to utilize the keyboard and display. thanks kb1chu

If this is the same unit I'm thinking of (as in same as the ones I tested years ago for the Alameda Police dept.), they're utterly useless for any purpose other than working with the system they were designed for. Shedding the CPU and other electronics will result in nothing more than a video monitor with strange sync rates, and an even more useless keyboard.

The problem is that the 9100-11, as I recall, was a dedicated data terminal designed to work in conjunction with a host computer (usually an IBM mainframe, or a mini such as the AS/400) and highly specialized software. The most common application, at least in the police world, was retrieving license plate records in the field.

In short, the thing has no ham-friendly value that I know of. I hope you didn't pay too much for it.

cost more to ship than buy. still feel the need to play with these units.any info wiring programming pinout etc.gladly recieved
