Still need some touch up, but up and 10-8. VHF in the front, UHF in the rear compartment. Don't mind the dirt. Have not had good weather long enough to keep it clean. Some wire loom and ties to clean up. Photos,

I'm alittle slow in replying....

Was that an aftermarket item to raise the rear seat to make room for the radios, if so is there noticable difference to someone sitting back there?

They fit with no mods.

Very nice. I have the same overhead console in my '97 but went the step further by getting the Tuffy full rear underseat drawer too. I picked it up in person as i'm right across the PA line from 4WD Hardware. I haven't got it all installed yet but planned to put the radios in the drawer to keep them safe. I am toying with using A9 heads now though so I may use the overhead slots for other radios instead. Still looking at my antenna options as well, since I don't have any racks to mount from yet.

Nice!

I like the overhead console, that solves the problem with having a place for the control heads up front.

Dirt, heck, that don't bother me. It's been so darn wet and muddy here lately that as soon as it dries up and stays dry for a while i plan on taking the van in for a good carpet and seat shampoo. The floors are turning brown from the in/out traffic.

The under seat clearance must be higher on the TJ models. My hi power drawers barely fit under the back seat of my 1995 Sahara YJ. It's so close there's no way to really mount them to anything and still have the seat lock down.

Also, what do you think about that overhead console? Is it convenient enough with them overhead like that? I'm thinking that might be the way to go. There's just no room down low unless I put in a whole console.

Mancow,

If security is a concern, then this console is the way to go. If you are less concerned about security and want something cheaper then check out the CB Rack. It's pretty much just an overhead slab of metal made to be customized to whatever you want. I may move to one of these since i'm thinking about dual A9 heads w/DEKs and maybe a switchbox.

That might work better. I have an A9 setup myself and that wouldn't work with that other console.

On a side note, what do you guys think about running a hi power deck with the antenna there? Mine is setup almost exactly like Frank's with the antenna off the 3rd brake light bracket. It's kind of creepy with all that power emitted from that thing but I guess it may not be all the different than an antenna on the trunk of a regular vehicle.

Better than going with an NMO mount off the front. I've seen people mount brackets sticking out of the crack between the hood and fender, opposite of the side the FM antenna is on. 110W not more than 2 feet from your face. Mmmm toasty eyeballs :o
