Spectra Dash Mount Head Problems

I have a D43KMA7JA5BK that has a HLN6075B A5 front CH on it. After upgrading the MLM and things going good. I decided to change the front CH to on that would allow the front Display Backlight to be default ON after power up. The replacement was a HLN6075D2. The problem is when the new CH is on the radio. The radio will power On, due the self check, Transmit a data burst, and recycle. I put the old 6075B CH back on and now the display shows the channel then every few seconds flashes NO EMERG. Then all the front buttons do not work, like its locked.
Is there anything I can do to the 6075B that will allow it to have the default backlight ON after power up?

What model# is your interconnect board? If it's not an HLN6285, the newer version control heads won't function properly, and the radio trys to transmit the emergency signal upon powerup. You can easily convert these units with this simple mod:

Take your your 6058's and 6066's and isolate pins 4,5,22,and 29. To find these pins, look at your interconnect board while it is still in the radio after taking off the control head. They will be the pins at the top of the board, not to be confused with the lower black plug which the control head mates with.

Starting from the top row of pins at the very left which will be pin 1. As you get to pin 6 you will see that pin 7 is missing and then continues to pin 8 all the way to the far right which will be pin 19. Pin 20 starts at the bottom left bellow pin 1 and proceeds to the far right which will be pin 38.

You can cut the traces to each pin or just unsolder it and remove it like a bad tooth.

You now have an HLN6285.

If you do the mod, it will work both with older heads as well as the newer heads, so you will also still be able to use the B unit as well.

Could I just clip the pins/leads off instead of unsoldering the pins?

If you can cut them completely flush, without damaging the other pins. They unsolder quite easily.

ok, I was going to use some nippy cutters and clip them off. But, before I do that I took a picture of the board and going to post it of what needs to be done.

Also on the older heads the back lighting can be forced on with a jumper. But the DIM does not affect the back lighting.

Ok, took those pins out by unsoldering them. Still no default backilight with either control head.
Do you have any instructions on what pin to jumper? I don't think I ever adjusted my backlight on my radios. Like it full on all the time. What Control Head did the backlight setting become available via programmable thru RSS?

If you have a HLN6075, HLN6263 or HLN6283 control head circuit board, you can remove the zero ohm chip resistor jumper JU16 and install jumper JU17 to always force the backlight to be on.

The enhanced HLN6337 and HLN6338 also have these jumpers, but the backlight setting on these are RSS programmable (therefore, there is no reason to mess with these jumpers unless you do not want the radio operator to be able to manually turn the backlight off).

I have seen an older control head with a SP01 after the model number (I do not remember which head model number) that would program the backlight.

The programmable backlight heads also allow you to use the DEK on a Systems 9000 remote mount. Sorry, your heads are not the correct ones for RSS programmable backlights.

Thanks, Mike. Is there a diagram or instructions on where to locate JU16 and JU17? I would like to Force the backlight on, on these control heads.

The circuit board layout with the jumper locations is in the 6881109C33 A5/A7 control head manual. It think it is also in the detailed service manuals. The control head manual is the best one. Sorry, I do not have these manuals handy (they are in the storage bin for now).
