Here's a suggestion

Maybe, instead of painting the mics, take a label maker (a newer style one) or some computer heavy duty computer labels and affix a label to the front grille of each mic that says what it is.

Might be cheaper and easier than having to repaint mics.

Just a thought.

Good luck.

Blaze.

A contrasting color of auto touch-up paint; the small bottles with brushes in the caps.

Also, various colors of nail polish will work quite well.

Clean the surface with some alcohol first so the paint sticks. You can cover it with some clear coating when it dries.

Keep the ID information simple: one number or letter. It can go on the front below the grill, or in the lower left corner of the grill (depending on the model of the microphone), or on top. It depends on how the mikes are mounted and the user's viewing angle.

what ive done is try to get different mics, ex my GTX has the black radius style mic, the maxtrac has the DTMF mix, and my spectra has a standard mic.

Who said mobile. Sorry, got tied up with the electrical tape. Gotta love the stuff.

Electrical tape will still work on the top of the mics on the mobiles. OR he could use the electrical tape on the antennas of the mobiles. he would just have to look on the roof and chase the wire every time he time he picks up a mic.

I think Indiana State Police used to paint their ISPERN mikes red so you could tell the difference between the other radios.
They are a police collector item now.

Krylon makes a special paint that's good for sticking to plastic. So you don't get that chipped up flakey look after a while.

Pick different colors (obviously) for the microphones, and then put a paint spot on the face of each radio that matches the microphone color.

For a "quick and dirty" solution, use the 3M colored electrical tape on the strain relief at the microphone and connector end of the microphone cable.

NLEEF is ILEEN in Indiana, its called ISPERN in Illinois.

You're thinking of Illinois which had factory option RED MICS on the state spec'd ISPERN Radios.

Sadly, Motorola stopped making custom colored mic housing years ago around the Syntor X vintage. Blue, Yellow and Black were also available.

I keep a like new one around for the nostalgia.
