Ok..loaded up a pair of Sabers with DES
Flip secure switch on one, keep the other one clear...transmission still goes through? (can't hear it on un keyloaded saber)
Thanks
Is this normal on DES?

Yep, that's a configurable option. I forget what it's called though. I guess the assumption is that a user with a properly keyed radio has access and the need to hear traffic. It can cause some undesirable effects, too. Ever hear 1 uncoded and 1 (or more) coded parties talk back and forth? It's because the guy with his switch in the wrong position doesn't know the difference!
The switch just selects the transmit condition, if the radio is loaded with the correct key for the encrypted traffic it will decode it regardless of switch position.

Yes, and it will stay muted on DES transmissions that do not have the proper key. However, if for some crazy reason you wanted to hear them you can go into radio features and enable the code detect delete to let all DES transmissions through regardless of key. Of course it doesn't decode them, just unmutes for the unmatched ones.

Yes, exactly. I think they made it so the secure/clear switch would only affect the transmit as a safety concern. Imagine a cop in a situation where he accidentally bumped his radio switch from secure to clear, and suddenly can't hear his partner telling him someone's coming at him with a gun. Much better to have the radio capable of decoding regardless of switch position, and go with the lesser evil of transmitting in the clear if the switch gets bumped.poser wrote:Thanks! On the receive side in secure mode, what DOES get through? A matching key and all other transmissions having the programmed CTCSS code?
