Syntor X transmitting problems

Okay here goes,my first post.
I hooked up my new(to me) Syntor X.
Programmed it ala Piexx programable eeprom.
Everything fine so far,but.....
Receives fine.
Power to green wire..O.K.
Ptt doesn't do anything.
When I apply power to the orange wire,it goes
to transmit without the ptt being pushed.
Mic works.Trans seems to work(no wattmeter on it).
Broken wire in ptt?
Control head plugs correct according to Mikes
site.

UPDATE!
Looks like a short in mic cable!
Unplug mic,fine.Plug in mic,transmits.
Shoulda checked before posting!

From your description it sounds like you plugged the mike into the wrong port on the rear of the Sys 90 deck.

Double checked,its in the right spot.

And it's a great radio. If I ever drive again mine will go back in whatever wheels I have then. And I think it's time for the Piexx module too.

How many modes is your control head? You know all Syntor X radios are 32 modes, right? The limitation is in the head and cable.

Even though the model number may show less than 32 modes, that just shows the original package - head and cable included.

If you have less than 32, find a new head and cable!

Actually, if you have less than 64 channels, replace the EEPROMs! There's no need to mess with the cable.

I happen to have some leftover EEPROMs listed on eBay this week, if anyone wants some. All of my radios that didn't have them already do now.

The Syntor X can go 64?? How do you do that? All i have ever seen is 16ch with talkaround or two banks of 32 channels.

Unless your thinking of the X9000, in that case go 255ch's like mine..

Yeah,I dunno but I think we may be mixing an X and an X9000. I've read Mike's site very thoroughly over the years and I don't recall anything about a 64 mode X.

I've been wrong before but 32 is actually fine for me anyway. And at that I was stretching to think of high band stuff to listen to. You should see more poring over scanner sites to try and find stuff to put into my A7 MT2000. 160 modes - whooppiee!!! LOL.

Right now i got 109 in my VHF, and 96 i think in the UHF. And that covers all the repeaters i get near in three states, and PS stuff.

I've got the 32 mode head.
Any product advice on dry,sticky pushbuttons?
I washed them with an alcohol based cleaner,
now they're clean but dry and hard to push.

I had one that all the buttons had a really light coating of white lithium grease on, they never stuck that's for sure.

the Systems 90 control head push buttons aren't always easy to push. Keep in mind they're all linked together mechanically as pushing one in pushes another out.

I'd take the thing apart and make sure there's no excessive dust or gunk in the works. Clean with a toothbrush if necessary. It's been years since I've had a Systems 90 head apart as mine has worked fine. And my manuals are still packed away from our last move.

But if you look at the Systems 90 head, there are screws on the top and bottom holding the back cover in place. Remove that back panel and the upper and lower circuit boards will slide out the back of the head. Be careful not to lose the buttons as they're not attached to anything.

Once you have the boards out you will see the mechanism more clearly. Clean it up, spray the switches with cleaner and you should see improvement.
