Best MURS-able radios?
I need to whip up a nice set of MURS radios, any suggestions? (hopefully not very pricey) Thanks
You could go with a couple SP50's, if you are on a budjet. You would need to turn them down to 1-2 Watts, but not alot of people do. I would just run a DPL/PL for sure because there's alotta users out there on MURS (at least around here)
They usually go for about $50-$70 on eBay, and that's usually with free programming as well.

MT1000

Plenty of options out there. Around here MURS is like a free for all CB band, it's nuts. Mostly due to the MURS radios that Radio Shack was selling.

Thanks, it's pretty quiet over here, minus the occasional cabbie blasting out 200+Watts
Also, can I get the pros and cons of those radios? Moto has a HUGE selection..I mean, jeez, I've gotten to the point where I cant tell apart the JT1000, MT1000, P300, HT750 series, P150 etc
Is there a site to compare their features?

You would only be able to use those on the two upper channels as none of them will to 12.5k band width.kb0nly wrote:HT600

I use HT1000s. They are fairly cheap on ebay, can be turned down to 2 watts with no problems, and will do 12.5k.
12.5k on MURS?? All the Rat Shack radios aren't 12.5k!
That was meant to be sarcasm. But i know around here that none of the radios being used meet the requirment on the first three channels. Not to say that its good to do so, just that it is happening. Probably why Rat Shack discontinued the model most owners are using, they had a clearance sale on them and they were sold out in hours instead of days. So obviously everyone buying them are making use of them.

There is a seller on http://www.popularwireless.com selling Midland MURS portables for $66.00 I believe. He is R.K. Leef. Some of the guys liked them and at that price it sounds cheap.

The batteries aren't "hard" to find, but they are "very expensive" compared to regular Saber batteries. At least twice the cost of a new one for a used R battery.. Whew.
