M206 LOWBAND QUESTION

Post by commsfire »

I AM TRYING TO FIND OUT IF MY M206 LOWBAND RADIO PROGRAMS WITH THE M100 RSS. I WAS TOLD THAT IT HAS TO BE LOW BAND SPECIFIC.
CAN ANYONE TELL ME THE TRUTH ON THIS RADIO?.
I JUST NEED TO KNOW WHAT THE RSS SOFTWARE NAME IS OR EVEN THE PRODUCT NUMBER FOR IT.
ANY OTHER INFO ON THIS RADIO WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
:D
THANKS

GM300 RSS is different and wont read a M206.
Check the model number it may be a Maxtrac with a M206 head! Also make sure the computer is not too fast for the RSS, remember what Monty has said, 386-40 to be sure and in DOS... NOT some dumb DOS box from Windows :o.

M206 LOW BAND

Post by EKLB »

IN YOUR LAST REPLY YOU SAID THE RSS READ A GM300 FINE BUT GAVE YOU THE OPS ERROR AGAIN ON THE M206 ALEAST THAT WAS MY INTERPETATION IF SO THEN
PROBABLY TRUE THE GM300 USES ANOTHER RSS THAT IS NOT THE SAME ONE NEEDED FOR THE M206 AND AS EARLIER STATED AND ALSO A CORRECT STATEMENT THE M206/M208/M214/M216 USE THE RADMBL
RSS AND NOT THE GM300 RSS IM NOT AWARE THAT THERE WAS A LOW BAND RSS THE RSS WAS THE SAME FOR ALL BANDS
HOWEVER SOME RADIOS DID HAVE A LOWBAND RSS SUCH AS THE P200 PORTABLE FOR EXAMPLE BUT DONT THINK THIS WAS TRUE WITH THE M206

M206 LOWBAND

Post by EKLB »

JUST CHECKING INTO THE ACCURACY OF MY EARLIER POSTING IT WOUL APPEAR THAT THE
M100 USED A RADMBL VERSION R07.20.01 AND THE LISTING ON IT SAID M100 ONLY HOWEVER ANOTHER VERSION R08.00.00 LISTED THE M100/AS WELL AS THE M206/M208/M214/M216 AS RADIOS SUPPORTED SO MAYBE THERE IS SOMETHING TO THE RSS SPECIFIC COMMENT TOLD YOU EARLIER PLEASE CONSIDER THIS AS INFO WORTH CHECKING INTO AND NOT GOSPEL AS IM NOT 100% SURE MYSELF NOW

SOS FOR THE M206

Post by commsfire »

OK. I HAVE SEARCHED THE MDF FILE ON ALL THE SOFTWARE THAT I HAVE THIS INCLUDES THE RADMBL SOFTWARE FOR MY MODEL NUMBER AND IT IS NOT LISTED. ALSO, I HAVE SEARCHED MY MAXTRAC SOFTWARE FOR THE SAME AND NOTHING.
I AM IN SERIOUS NEED OF HELP.
I HAVE RUN IT IN DOS ONLY SINCE THAT IS THE WAY ITS DONE, AND I HAVE A SLOW COMPUTER. I RAN MY GM 300 SOFTWARE AND READ MY GM 300 AND IT WORKS FINE SO MY SYSTEM IS GOOD.
ANYONE ELSE GOT A CLUE AS TO WHATS GOING ON.
I DONT BELIVE ITS HACKED SINCE THE MOTOROLA GUYS READ IT WITH THERE SOFTWARE. I SHOULD HAVE LOOKED ON THE SCREEN TO SEE WHAT THEY WERE USING AS RSS BUT I WAS UNABLE TO.
IM LOST AND SINKING FAST.
SOMEONE THROW MY A LIFELINE....
THANKS

Is there a way to get this done any other way.
I think we have discussed the problem, now the solution is??????????
Can I update the version of the radio so it will work?

M206 PROBLEM CONTINUES

Post by commsfire »

I cannot read anything since this is the only radio I have like this and theres nothing in the archive.
I downloaded a copy of the radmbl software. I have one that is ver 8 on may the 5th of 93 and another that is ver -1.00.00 on october 1st of 94
I hex edit the mdf file on all of them to find my model number in it and no luck.
Ive done that to every rss that I have and still nothing.
Anyone got a code plug....

I forgot to ask. Is there any way to change the model numbers in the mdf file and redo a checksum or something to add mine to it or change one thats close.
I had heard of this before but never did it.
I find d51lra9733ak alot in the mdf file.
Also, if I did that would I also have to change the frequency paramemters in the file as well.
Something I was thinking of.

M206 PROBLEM CONTINUES

Post by commsfire »

I just found my radios model number in a radmbl rss...however, it still gives me the same error code of op 7 when i try to program the codeplug.
I actually read the radio in a dos box under windows and it read fine and I was able to see all the info in it but I cannot program the codeplug in either windows dos box or in dos.
Now the plot thickens..........................
Anyone want to venture a guess on this one. Im one step closer to solving the mystery.
It is telling me the radio must be powered up for me to be able to program the code plug.

M206 PROBLEM SOLVED

Well all, your not gunna belive it but I was able to read and write and do everything to the radio. Hoever, I did it under a dos box while I was in windows.
Now that I have my 8 channels in it, Is it possible to get 16 channels out of it. I know how to modify the mdf file but I am curious. the hex block is a 06 which means its 8 channels. Can I take this type of radio to 16 channels while leaving 2 or 3 blank so the codeplug doesnt wrap?.
Hearing from anyone that has done this or has some HELPFUL comments is greatly appreciated.
Thanks to all of you who actually helped me in this problem.

Breaking the number one rule, running radius mobile RSS under windows. DO NOT run the RSS in or even near windows, it is not designed to.
Best, as all of us do, boot your computer to DOS 6.2x and then run the M100/ RSS, why take a chance messing up the radio and making a doorstop out of it.
And as most of have said, a DOS window in Windows 9x or later Windows :o, is NOT the dos the RSS was designed to work with. I see that you missed that part of April's post!!!!

HI:

I was going to respond earlier, but I thouht I would let
everyone else toss in their advise 1st.

If you look at the [ Date ] the Rambl Software was made,
that should give you a clue.....92, 93, ect { Even before
Windows 95 was in exsistance ]

Hence, depending on your Computer, and its OS, you sorta
are fighting a number of obsticals. Although you are partially
suscessful in getting it to read / write, you may find that its still
may give you trouble especially when it comes to modifications.

Many persons are able to make them play after hours of work,
but ! if you consider getting a 386-486-25 Series Computer
with DOS 6.22 installed , and dedicated to JUST Motorola or
other Radio RSS programming life would be alot easier.

The opt 7 Codes / inter / divide problems are a clue your
Computer clock speed is runnimg to fast and / or a OS
problem. Couple the above with a Clone Rib Box, Low or
No battery, and perhaps a poor cable, will cause you alot
of headaches.

I have found these older Programs operating on a 16 bit
stucture, can and does corrupt some of the later Windows
Operating Systems.

If it was not such a hassle to reinstall the OS's, it would not
be a big deal, but anyhow, I am sure this have been covered
many times.

All you have to do now is hex edit the Radio File, for 16 modes,
and it should work fine......But I would take the advice of the
many perosns who have traveled over the same road you are
on today.

Adding Modes to your M206

Post by cranbiz »

Hi,

I have several Radius mobiles that I have hex edited the mdl file on for 16 modes. You should not have any problems with adding the additional modes and will not have codeplug wrap around IF you don't edit the mdl file for more than 16. The M206 that you have will probably NOT support scanning however it may support signalling. Make a backup of your original unhacked codeplug in a seperate directory to restore from if you have a problem (most important). Use the proper (SLOW) computer in a DOS only enviorment (A Windows DOS box is asking for trouble).

Good Luck.

Bob
