VHF/UHF Saber Conversion

I have 2 Saber I VHF's a 2 Saber III UHF's. Is there any way to swap rf/logic boards so that I can have 2 Saber III VHF's and etc... Is this an easy/difficult task or impossible. Thanks for your input.

Swap the display shield assemblies, reprogram the radios to their new configurations, and it's done.

A few tools that are helpful in this are:

....spanner wrench for removing the nuts on the bottom on the radio.(I happen to use a pair of needlenose pliers of the size to fit into the spanner nut)

....the same or another pair of needle nose pliers for inserting and removing the flex cable connectors.

....phillips screw driver to remove the screws at the battery connect contacts. Don't lose the little flexible spring piece of steel that provides a spring back for the battery lock button.

I also had to swap the clear rubber crystal cover boots as the Saber 1 did not allow room for the flex cable to pass by it.

Actually, all this is pretty staright forward
and simple.

No, no, no, you DON'T remove the battery contacts to remove the housing! Just loosen the slotted spanner nuts and the housing slides off.

If you remove the battery contacts, you will have a fun time getting the housing flex circuit back into position.

Ooops,

I did indeed err on part of that advice.

I think I removed these trying to figure out why one of my Sabers had three battery contacts instead of two during my conversion.

Anyone know of the reason for this ?

The earliest Sabers had four (total) battery contacts instead of two,and so did the earliest production batteries. I never did discover why, but it doesn't seem to make any difference at all.
