Call Motorola or go to MOL and good luck with their agreement on the licensing...they are very picky and you are looking at 300+ for the software. Then of course you need a RIB and a programming cable for each type of radio you will be programming.

You know what is really strange...I've been a ham for over 30 years used'moto radio's and I never heard of anyone that motorola fined them threw them in jail and threw any the key with life in prison? I have never heard of anyone that purchased software from moto especially on radio's that have been 'discontinued' and only use the DOS only software. If your 'model' is a 'discontinued' radio and it only use the DOS software [and you do have to sign a user fee- and can't 'copy it it' for other's] I sent them my 'ham Licence-[they will make a copy of it and send it back with 'the agreemnt form-then i send it back and got the software I had no problem with them and it's not a 600+ fee. From my thinking just ONLY the discontinued model's are really cheap, I think I paid a user fee [way back when] and when I got the agreement form and if I remember it right it was only 50 buks..this was back in the late 70's and late 80's? Weird isn't it..but I have never met anyone that moto fined them and threw them in jail...Has anyone here on this group ever heard of anyone fined-etc. on the dicontinured models?????KA3OLA

The price does vary depending on the model. I've seen RSS as cheap as $65.00 and upwards of $400.00.

There is no fee for signing the agreement. As a matter of fact, you don't even have to sign anything anymore, it's all electronic now.

The price that I show for MTS2000 is $265.00 on MOL.

You can pick up a cheap RIB and cable or a RIBless cable on Ebay or just make your own RIB and cable. It's really not that bad.

As for as people getting in trouble for software, check out the longest thread in Batlabs history...

Motorola loves to spend time in court, otherwise why would they have such a huge legal department...and last time I inquired about software for a d/c'ed radio (saber and system saber) they wanted 225-345 for the respective software...and of course they sent me the loving license agreement...which I let MY lawyer read over before I signed it...and then of course there are various federal software anti-priacy laws to back MOTO up too...imagine big business and the government in bed with each other

MTS2000 R02.00.01 CPS $279.00 from Motorola.

Radio Interface Box RLN4008E $200.00 from Motorola

CABLE, PROGRAM & TEST, JEDI $210.00 from Motorola

Funny thing is, the Saber RSS costs more at $310.00 and Systems Saber is not even showing up at all. I guess it's no longer available.

All the time.

They wait until the auction ends then grab the list of buyers too and squeeze them to testify against the seller.

I spoke with MOL about not seeing System Saber RSS (RVN4051F) available. They sent me a form to sign and acknowledge I understand that version of RSS software is not Y2K compliant and I am using it at my own risk. Once they process the paperwork it should show up on MOL.

I have tried to buy software, and am just about ready to sell my radio. I call motorola... after about 20 transfers back and fourth from department to department... all I got was a defunct part number and told to call my local dealer... who you guessed it... told me to call motorola. They make a solid product... it's just a shame they can't back it up with support people who have a clue.

Ok, so the secret number is 1-800-448-6686, that is their professional radio division. Then you have to set up an account with motorola which could take 24 to 48 hours for them to ok.

Its a good thing I don't need this software by Friday or anything

Ok, What is the benefit of using a rib & cable vs a ribless cable?
