Whelen 10-digit DTMF Protocol

Post by aaknitt »

Sorry if this is a little bit off-topic, but is anyone on here familiar with Whelen's 10 digit DTMF protocol that's commonly used for storm siren activation? I'm specifically interested in the timing. Is there a way to use an "el cheapo" DTMF decoder like the Selectone ST-809B as a decoder?

Our county has the Whelen encoder...looking for a cheaper decoder that will work with that system.

The Midian will decode the Whelen DTMF, but only the first 8 as I remember. If the first 8 of the "Storm" sequence are different than the first 8 of the fire or other tones, it will work okay.

Make sure there arent any custom tones being used.
