CDM External Speaker

Ever since I hooked up an external speaker to my CDM1250, the Signal Strength Meter (rssi) on the display, displays full signal strength with any signal. Even if the signal received comes in just barely audible with alot of static, it shows it as being full strength. Take off the ext. speaker, and the problem is gone.

Anyone elese expierence this?

the speaker goes to pins 1 and 16, rssi is on pin 15. make sure you don't have the speaker in the wrong pin.

The connector is wired so that audio comes from both the internal and external speaker simultaneously, as they both do. It's wired on both pins 1/16 and 1/16 are both jumpered as well to allow both speakers to produce audio.

Jumpered to what ?? The cdm does not require any jumpers to enable the internal speaker. Just connect the external speaker to pins 1 and 16. If you have any other jumpers in place you may be connecting speaker audio and it's DC bias to the RSSI pin like Jack sugjested. Get rid of the jumpers and see if the problem goes away

The external speaker wires should be in opposite corners of the connector with no other jumpers. On the older radius models(gm300, etc.) there was a jumper between 16 and 15 to enable the internal speaker, so if you used a connector wired for the older radios this could cause your problem.

Another possibility might be that one of the pins is bent over and when you put the connector on it's shorting out, make sure they're all straight.

Yes, 15 and 16 are jumpered, and 1 goes to the speaker as well as 16. I'll remove the 15/16 jumper and see what happens.
