Spectra Button Question please...
HI...I am a bit confused about the Spectra "Emerg" button....on my A% head it is plugged...my radio can do emergency feature, but it is currently disabled, which is fine, because I have no use for that right now...but since my radio can be enabled for Emerg...I want to have the button on the front....will it just beep once I put the button in since the feature is disabled? I have the keypad names set right, with emerg on the first (currently blank) button....NOW....I have seen the regular white button that says "Emerg" in black, what is the RED Emerg button? is the actual button RED or is it white with just the writing in RED? Also...what is the RED Emerg Plunger? from what I can gather...is it a raised area that a red or black emerg button goes into?? and do they have RED plunger and Black PLunger? I am confused about the entire red/black emerg buttons and plunger thing...any detailed info would be appreciated....thanks, David KD6RFS

This button is just like any other button on the head- you just pop out the plug and insert a button from the backside, enable it, and you're good to go.kd6rfs wrote:HI...I am a bit confused about the Spectra "Emerg" button....on my A% head it is plugged...my radio can do emergency feature, but it is currently disabled, which is fine, because I have no use for that right now...but since my radio can be enabled for Emerg...I want to have the button on the front....will it just beep once I put the button in since the feature is disabled?
There are several different EMERG buttons you can get, it just depends on your preference.I have the keypad names set right, with emerg on the first (currently blank) button....NOW....I have seen the regular white button that says "Emerg" in black, what is the RED Emerg button? is the actual button RED or is it white with just the writing in RED?
I believe the button you are referring to is used in 'high stakes' situations, where you don't want to accidently hit it, because once it's pressed, there is going to be a response equal to an 'officeer down' call on the radio. The buttons all serve the same function, they all press the same spot on the circuit board, it's merely a cosmetic appearance difference.Also...what is the RED Emerg Plunger? from what I can gather...is it a raised area that a red or black emerg button goes into?? and do they have RED plunger and Black PLunger? EMER Button
Hi David,
There are (as you have discovered) several "EMER" buttons - they all do exactly the same thing with the radio, but they do look & act a bit differently.
There is a white one with a black "EMER" on it, as well as a red one with white " EMER" on it - these are the same shape as all the "normal" buttons.
The "plunger" version is a two-part deal - a small red plunger and a larger black piece that snaps into the hole with the small plunger sticking up in the middle. The black piece is "dished", so the button is protected from accidental pressing. There is no label on this button.
I use one of the "plunger" types on my "airhorn" position - keeps me from making inadvertant loud noises...
