While attempting to open the MaxTrac .exe file, I get an error message "error 2009: not enough space for environment"
Why is this happening?
When I run the MaraTrac .exe program, it opens fine with only one problem. I get a 'serial bus error' when I run the COM test.
I am attempting to open the MaxTrac program on an XP machine using TURBO to slow the PC down.
Could this be the problem?
Anyone out there have any idea as to why I am having problems with the COM port issue and opening the MaxTrac program?
Thanks in advance to all that reply

Re: MaxTrac RSS Problem!
As all the others on the board here say, use a slow computer in the pure DOS mode. The older RSS programs were not wrote to work under windows control or even in a DOS window. Don't do it.
If you don't have a slow computer, go look for one. A 286 or a 386 machine is about all you want. Many people throw them away as to most they are too slow and considered junk. The clock speed of about 300 MHz is all you want or even slower.
Your taking a big risk in trying to play with that radio on a computer running om an XP computer. Anothe point is to make sure you hard drive is no more than a FAT 32 format. The newer format can't be run under DOS.

The "environment" problem is related to the amount of memory the program needs. In a pure DOS system, it can usually get close to 590kB of memory, and that's enough. If you're running it under any version of Windows, it may get less than that, and will complain.
Similarly, the COM ports on a pure DOS system are usable by the single program running at the time, such as RSS. Under any version of Windows, the COM ports are managed by Windows and require specific operating system calls to be used properly. RSS tries to access the ports directly, something that's not allowed on many multi-tasking, multi-user operating systems (such as Windows).
The speed of the computer isn't so much of an issue for MaxTrac programming, but the need to run pure DOS is just a requirement you have to abide by.
