Spectra Control Head A9 button assignment problem

Post by WB4JGI »

I have a Spectra T83FWA7JA9AK and a control head model # of HCN1073D. The problem is in RSS control head programming, button assignment. The buttons on the last row of the keypad are all set to blank and when I try to change them to RCL, SQL, DEL it says that this row is view only. It is driving me nuts. Help is greatley appreciated.

I thought they were set to RCL, SQL, DEL by default and not changeable on the Spectra A9?

You guys can go to this website and download the codeplug there. It was last edited with Spectra RSS V6.00.05

Ok, this is weird.

I downloaded that codeplug file, dumped it into the archive directory for my RSS and it doesn't show up on the load from archive screen. Anyone got an idea on how to make the RSS see the added codeplug??

What radios do you own?: I can't enter that much....

Scott, at the bottom of the "GET/SAVE:GET FILE" screen (F3, F3 from the main menu), you should see a selection that says "ADD ARCHIVE (F3)". Press F3, and it will prompt you for a serial number. Type the filename of the archive you downloaded from Whitsu, minus the "A" at the beginning and the "." toward the end, then hit enter. You should get a message at the top right telling you "Archive Updated OK", and the new archive should show up in the list on the screen. That's all there is to it.

I tried loading the codeplug into my copy of 06.00.05, and I get the same result that you do, Whitsu. It may be time to start looking for a codeplug from another radio of the same model to clone into your radio. Those three buttons all show up as "View Only. Field May NOT Be Changed." in all the other codeplugs I've ever seen, but they normally show up as "RCL", "Sql", and "Del". I have no idea what may have happened to yours. Have you tried simply reading the codeplug again to see what happens?

I would have tried something else this morning but KB9KST had it fixed and emailed it back within 30-45min after creating this post. I've backed that codepug up about 5 times to make sure I don't loose it.

Jason, I've gotta ask. What miracle did you perform to fix it?
