i have a range 3 UHF quantar no IMBE, nothing special. it is set up as a cross band repeater using a LInk Communications TCB1 and a M208.
here's the problem: no matter where it is, at the site or on the bench. after it is on for a little while the RX1 Led will light up and on the local speaker you will here discriminator. becase of the cross band application it will pass this on to the low band radio.
if i disconnect the 50 pin centronics connector on the back(which i use for the crossband connections) it still does it. if i recycle the power of course it stops.
the discriminator is still heard if the centronics connector is disconnected. in normal repeat mode UHF-UHF no noise is heard on the portable radio end.
the frequency itself is clean near closet user is 500 miles away.
anyone ever encounter this?
weird quantar problem

Receiver White Noise
Since I don't know how the station's receiver parameters are configured, I would take an educated guess that your Carrier Squelch setting might be on the Threshold. With a little time and the internal component values changing with temperature, the Quantar Base Station opens the Squelch circuitry. You have not mentioned IF you're using Tone PL or Digital PL Decode in conjunction with the Carrier Squelch parameter.
Before cycling power do a quick check to see if the receiver is opening on carrier only. We are having a problem with our Astro Tac receivers losing tone squelch after a period of operation. Cycling power restores proper carrier and PL squelch op. Please let me know if you find your unit is simply losing PL after a period of time.
