Datacast, Sports Pager Capcodes?

Post by kcØkbh »

Hi,
I've got a couple questions about Datacast information services, and the Sports Pagers-
First off, a while back, I emailed Datacast about their updates, and wanting to refreq and reprogram my Wordline Flex to a Datacast frequency and capcode. They told me there was a universal capode, to recieve all updates, and I believe they said it was area specific. Where can I find this "universal capcode," since I really love the 3 Datacast updates I get on my old POCSAG 900 MHz Advisor Pro, with no service, but would like all of the Datacast updates? I get on it- hourly weather updates, 3 weather forecasts per day, and lotto numbers. I used to get news, but don't anymore. According to American Messaging, who owns the network that I get the updates from, I shouldn't even be getting anything on POCSAG anymore. :D

And second,
Do all Sports Pagers use the same capcode and frequency? Is it just Datacast information services? Is it possible to get this capcode and frequency, and reprogram a pager to it, like a CP1250, or Advisor Elite?

And last,
Can I program the pager to give an alert when a Datacast update comes?

Also, is there a "test mode" for an Advisor Pro, or Wordline, just like the old Bravos and Lifestyles were able to do?

Thanks,

I can answer one question for sure; yes you can get an alert on the news/sports/etc data. You have to have the programming software and hardware interface and change the attribute of the capcode from "maildrop" to "Personal" or whatever they call it. Some pagers don't allow you any alerts (or to save pages) on capcodes defined as Maildrop.

On the other hand, some pagers allow you to set an alert tone on maildrops. I have a Motorola PF-1500 pager like this. It also lets you create different folders for the maildrops and save the pages!
