PR1500 Ribless Programming Cables

Post by precoislen »

Wanted some opinions and thoughts on the various programming cables that are out for the PR1500's, etc....

I can get the OEM brand RKN4104A for around $250.00 (+/-)

Found this model on another website for $75.00

http://www.wiscomm.com/productimages/riblessxts525.jpg

The second model is more conducive to my budget right now, but wanted thoughts/opinions/suggestions on which one to purchase, use, etc....
Of course the OEM version from Motorola is always the best bet, but I have heard there are numerous non-OEM variants out there that work just as well.

TIA.

I didn't see a USB model listed.

WisComm part #

5025xts

Supports the following radios;

SSE5000, MT1500, PR1500, XTS1500, XTS2250, XTS2500, XTS4250 & XTS5000 Astro Portables. Series Models I, II, and III

Product Description;

Ribless DB9 serial port computer connection to radio programming cable. Fully Tested before Shipping. No R.I.B. Required.

Would you happen to have a supplier for the cable you use and a rough cost?

Build your own for around $10 if you already have an old Jedi speaker mic. There is a schematic floating around here on the board and it works prefect.

Doesn't work that way, the cable for this series radio has all the RIB electronics built into it. The regular Jedi cable will not work with the Astro 25 series portables.

I believe he's referring to using a Jedi cable, along with the schematic shown in the following thread:

wavetar is 100% correct. It cost me actually nothing to build my programmer becasue I already had all the parts laying around the house.

What I plan on doing when new radios (with different connectors) come out, I will just add another cable to my existing programmer.
The switch ontop of the programming box is to either grab voltage to power the MAX232 from the radio OR external source from 6.5V-18V.

I like the idea of powering the XTS5000 programming cable with an external power source. If the Vcc/Gnd contacts are slightly dirty on the radio, that can cause read/write probems.

Gents,

While I appreciate the information on building my own programming cable, it is above my skills and knowledge to do so. :cry:

Therefore I'd like some feedback on some quality aftermarket cables that are readily available and are geared more towards my budget.

Thanks...
