Two agencies using astro on the same frequency?

Post by nmfire10 »

Lets say you have two agencies on the same frequency using Astro. It is UHF conventional. Is there any way to make the Uniden 796D only hear one of those agencies since there is no PL/DPL?

Me: "What exactly is a 900Mhz UHF CB?"
Them: "A very nice CB at 900Mhz speed!"

If the Uniden 796D has the capability of Decoding Network Access Codes or just NAC, the Astro Digital equivalent of PL / DPL Codes then it can be done providing the Feds are not operating Encryption.

I figured.

The PD here just started using their collasal waste of grant money by making their conventional UHF system Astro. Serves no purpose but to say "ha ha, look what I got", but that's another story. There is someone in Yonkers NY (I think) that has been using it for years and it comes in here when band conditions are good. There is also another PD on the other end of the state using analog. Both of those agencies used to be blocked by PL. I guess if you want to listen to just our PD now, you are screwed.

The NAC is what the new scanners lack..don't know why..but it sucks. I ran into the same problem...unless its a new feature on the newest scanners.

Maybe the newer offerings from Uniden will allow firmware upgrades to enable such a feature?

Does your scanner have the capability to reject a given PL? If it does then you could start knocking out the offending traffic. I have no experience with the 796D.

Sure, compared to any commercial P25 radio they are.

But at least you won't get a zillion questions asking "how do I program this here Astro Saber to following my police department's trunked system".

Sadly, I am not comparing them to commercial gear. I am actually comparing the PRO-96 to the BCD396T, which is absolute garbage.
