Saber I UHF CORRUPT!

Post by matt7x »

I've got a UHF SABER 1. The radio powered up and appeared to work ok, until I programmed the radio. Now the radio appears like its dead (i.e. no squelch when I hit monitor and no TX) however I can still read and program the radio. When I read the radio it says something about the "CORE PERSONALTY is CORRUPT", and all the channel frequency TX/RX fields are full of what appears to be random number. Im clueless as to how the code plug got corrupted. How can I fix this? Or is this a doorstop?

Thanks

Did you save the codeplug that was in it? If so, try to program it in.

Make sure your RIB and Saber batteries are good.

Failing that, create a new codeplug in the RSS and try again.

Sabers require a slow computer. I changed out a Pentium 166 for a 486-50 when they dragged me into our screen room and all the problems we used to have went away.

With the exception of the last release, Systems Sabers require an even slower computer.

Corrupt codeplug data...

Post by AEC »

Did you look over every field in the channel data screens?

Do you have any '?' showing up in ANY field in the RSS while the radio is connected?

You may have enabled an option your radio does not support, say if you 'accidentally' enabled channel display names or a signalling option that's also unsupported, this can cause a corrupt codeplug, but usually, a complete reprogramming with a known GOOD codeplug will fix the problem, and if not, you will have to dig deeper to find the cause.

Since you have a Saber I, you can NOT use any autodial or manual telephone interconnect, nor does the radio support any scanning or selectable P.Ls.....many have made this mistake in the past also.

Also, model numbers MUST match, IE.....H44QXK7139CN version MUST be programmed with the SAME model designator, such as the last two letters (CN), these determine the build of the radio, and the level of the CORE that was mask programmed: IE...5C, 5D, 6D and so on.

You can not use any of the RAT buttons, don't even attempt to program these, they will not function on ANY Saber with a CORE of less than a 6D or higher.

After you read the radio, you can enter the RADIO INFORMATION screen under F2 to view the CORE and COPE, as well as frequency spread it's currently programmed with, but I suspect you already know this, and how to manipulate the RSS as well.

Simply create a new codeplug with known good data and reprogram, then run the service menu again to make certain you have the settings correct.
