JT1000 firmware question

Post by k5rpd »

I have a chance to buy a VHF JT1000 with 1.67 firmware. I know the JT1000's will not do QCII until the 3.02 firmware, but what will they do at the different firmware revisions? Such as... what will the revision 2.00 or 3.00 or 3.02 firmware do that the 1.67 firmware will not?

Also, the radio is in excellent condition, but I know it is old, so what would a good offer be to the guy who has it for sale? (He's asking $450 with belt clip, antenna, and rapid charger and everyhting including display functions 100%.)
Thanks,
JJ Smith

OLD jt

Post by SD70MAC »

To tell you the truth I would not buy it! Number 1 I have never seen a JT with that old of a firmware version. Number 2 I would not buy a JT now unless it has the latest firmware because of the narrow band issue. A JT that old would only be a good deal at $100-150. My JT is the BEST radio I have but I should have replaced it because now the county I live in has got a narrow band frequency that it will not take. I have thought about replaceing the board in it so it will have the latest firmware. :( But thats alot of $$$$$$$

I heard a rumor that FEMA will be getting rid of alot of thier JT1000 radios systemwide. Not sure if they are going to get rid of them here and there or a single auction since they are Federal.Would not be suprised if Motorola stepped in and tried to get them all destroyed instead of sold at auction or clearinghouse.
Anyone know of any online sites related FEMA surplus auctions?
