GM300 RIB

Post by obz »

When I'm in the service part of the software to change the power settings,
it seems it starts to read the radio then stops , and then it bounces back to the previous menu.
No error messages. I can never get pass the main sevice menu,ie set devation, power etc.
I'm using a aftermarket rib with works all other aspects except for the servicing of the radio.
Could this be the rib?
Any help on this would be appreciated.

Highly unlikely it's the RIB, especially if you can otherwise read and write (successfully) the codeplug.

You might want to try doing just that. Sometimes a fresh write will help the radio work better.

Also be sure the battery in the RIB is fresh, and that your 13.8V supply to the radio is between 13 and 14 volts with under 50mV of ripple.

I tried that with no luck.
Battery is fresh . I even went to the point of trying a slower computer.(386)
Is there a different cable for servicing part of the GM300's?
I'm using the typical 2 wire setup to program the radio.

Nope, same cable as you'd use on a MaxTrac or Radius or a whole lot of other radios with RJ45 MIC connectors.

Sounds like something's corrupt inside the radio, in the tuning data. Try all the other possible alignment screens (warp, deviation, power) to see if you can get into it all the way, then just exit. Maybe that will work. If not, and if you have a previously saved good codeplug, you might try writing that to the radio. I'm hesitant to say it, but the last straw would be to try the board replacement procedure. If the radio isn't otherwise working properly and you have nothing to lose, then it's worth the shot.

I can deal with MaxTracs, as they can be blanked and reinitialized, which usually fixes them up quite nicely, although they rarely get into such a condition. GM300s, on the other hand, can't easily be blanked and reinitialized.

Is it possible that 3 gm300 all have the same issue?
All which were programmed by different people and than by me as far as
editing the code:ie freq and the i/o outputs.
I tried the osc warp no luck. For some reason it starts to excute and then
bounces right back to the main service menu. I have tried different ver's
of software, all the same . This leads me to think maybe the rib might be a issuse.

Perhaps one RIB ruined the radios? I suppose it's possible but not very likely.

You'll have to find someone else with another RIB to try them.

It's also possible that someone wrote the radios with a newer version of software than you have, so yours can't access the radio any more, but usually when that happens, the program will tell you so, and you probably wouldn't be able to even make changes to channels or modes.

I've only played with two GM300s and had no trouble with either one, and I entered frequencies and adjusted the warp on both, so I know my RIB and cables work. You could send one to me if you can't find anyone locally who can help. If nothing else, I can either confirm or deny the problem as being the radio or the RIB.

Thanks Bob,
I might take you up on that.
I was able to read and program all three as far as freq and i/o ouputs.
I'm using r5.0
I will keep you posted.
Thanks Again
Mike
