Saber III, F2 vs. F6 .hex vs. 43cp ---> 33cp

Post by corruptRSS »

ok, I've read most of the posts on these boards at least twice. i have a few saber III, vhf low-split radios. I've been playing with them for about a week now. I understand that there is no great expectation for 'out-of-band' performance. My interests are more for playing than final utilization. I guess that this goes back to the BearCat 250 and 419 Mhz.

Anyway, my first question:
is there any 'technical' adavntage to utilizing the '.hex' method on the .exe file for out-of-band programming over the 43codeplug to 33codeplug method, or visa-versa ?

second:
prior to my intervention, all of my radios have been previously, programmed identically.

i have saved only ONE of the codeplugs of the four radios that i have reprogrammed.

i have done everything imagineable to them and am not certain which was the first, nor have i saved the CP for units 2-4.

My concern is the F2 vs. F6 function. If I reprogram the radios back to the original config., using F2, (file parameters) after having previously reprogrammed them and used F6 (radio parameters) (which were out-of-band), or visa-versa,

is there a need to realign the radio to maintain spec. ?
Or, are these radios similar enough that the orig. CP will be enough to bring them ALL back to their original specs. using just the one CP.

Hence, within alignment reason ?

If ALL radios are in the SAME band, and within the SAME frequency range, then using F6 instead of F2 may work, but if the radios have NOT all been aligned IDENTICALLY, then no, you will have to align every radio individually to ensure proper alignment specs, or at least one or more radios WILL be out of alignment and result in diminished performance.

The main thing you MUST make certain of, is that ALL the radios MUST have identical model numbers, like H44SAJ7139CN for the UHF, and H43QXK7139CN for the VHF secure models.

If they ALL have SCAN capability and are the SAME model structure, then running the programming and alignment within the same screen should be alright.

If any of the radios do NOT have identical features or options, then you will have to align and program every radio on it's own, with it's own alignment and allowable options as the RSS defines for each model.

But you should ALWAYS read and SAVE every codeplug from every radio you have, in case you need to return the radio to it's original configuration or if you screw up a codeplug, you'll have a known good one to revert back to and not brick the radio in the process.

If you have any questions concerning your radios, feel free to Email me using my signature info located at the bottom of the page, I'll be happy to help!
