Is this possible? MTS2000 Idea...

Hello all. I have a MTS2000, H01RDH9PW1BN, matching tags, 231104-100000-4, R06.82 controller. Overall a good radio, etc.

Only problem is, is that it was programmed last with a newer version of the MTS CPS.

Is it possible, if, I can get a codeplug, (would the flash need to match?), with the same Model #, that if I write it to the radio in a recent RSS, would it then make the radio readable/writable in RSS? This would not be that LAB Crap RSS that toolproof's your radio, I forget which version I have on hand but it was the last one compatable with the first release of MTS CPS.

My Questions in general are...

1) Is this possible to do?
2) Is this something that will result in any dreaded "FAIL" codes?
3) Will my S/N stay the same?
4) If possible to do, does the flash need to be the same on the donor cpg?
5) If psssible to do, would tuning values need to be saved, ect?

Any other input? I've never attempted something like this before.

Historically it has been possible to take a codeplug written with an earlier RSS, and clone it into a radio which was programmed with a later version RSS/CPS, and effectively 'revert' the radio back to the earlier RSS. This is assuming you can find the appropriate codeplug with identical model# & flashcode.

As of CPS 1.13.00 & later, according to the readme file, once programmed with that version, you can no longer do what I described above. I haven't tried it yet myself, just going by what I've read.

You won't brick the radio by trying. Your serial number remains the same, your tuning values don't change.

it shouldn't read with rss but if you have an old codeplug with matching model & flash you should be able to open it and write it to the radio then use your version of cps to go from there.

I have the latest RSS, the version compatable with the first release of CPS, but, unfortunately, I do not have the CPS.

I can read the radio but get the "Codeplug too new for this application" error.

Also, I have no codeplugs for this radio.

OK, I was told that if I:

Read The Radio with LAB RSS, and save the codeplug
(Assuming I wouldn't get the codeplug too new for app error?)

Close LAB, open regular RSS

Open saved codeplug in regular RSS

Program in regular RSS

And then it should read/write with regular Rss....am I correct?
Any dangers with doing this?

the radio isn't broken, it just needs newer cps. stay away from lab, any time you use it you are taking a chance of bricking the radio.

Heh, is it even possilbe to just read the radio with LAB, and not write? Or do I stand a chance of tool-proofing it with just a read?

You can read with Lab but it won't do much for you. I guarantee you do NOT want to write with RSS a codeplug that was originally saved using Lab. There is a bit that gets saved in the codeplug which will cause a toolproof error even with regular RSS. Been there, done that, saved my ass with a previously saved s-rec.

So, in short, is there any Reading/Saving/Writing-in-another-program thing that I can do with LAB and regular RSS?
