Replacement internal organs in Saber R
I have a SecureNet Saber II-R (not Astro). It is having unnecessary frequency band split. I want replace all required electronics to got Saber II-R for wanted band split.
Which Sabers I can use as electronics donor?
1. Saber II? If possible, usual or R only?
2. Systems Saber II? If possible, usual or R only?
3. Astro Saber II? If possible, usual or R only?
???
And may be any others?

- What radios do you own?: Too many!
Here is a VERY good post by K4WTF:

You are not going to be able to use Astro modules in a non-Astro radio and vice versa.
VHF to UHF and vice versa is also not going to work.

Saber 'R' series is the same as the standard analog Saber....I, II, III.
UHF and VHF parts will retrofit in the respective radios...UHF to UH and VHF to VHF ONLY!
You can't swap UHF with VHF modules or vice-versa.
Proper RSS is also a requirement!
The 'R' series is just a 'normal' Saber in a ruggedized housing, that's all.

But why? It has a different size or ???You can't swap UHF with VHF modules or vice-versa.

Saber questions...
If you open up a regular Saber and then open up an
Astro Saber and put them side by side it will be apparent
that they are two completely different animals, rather like
comparing a tractor and a taxicab. Saber has many small
modules; Astro Saber has two circuit boards plus a shield,
that's all. Even the control knobs and shafts are different.

VHF Saber modules are not the same(programming-wise) as the UHF Sabers, also, the receiver modules not only look different, but are designed differently as well, the VHF ones are square in appearance and the UHF ones have a 'tang' and mounts to the board with different screw locations as well, the VHF one has the screws in line with each other and top to bottom ....> 0 0<....
The remainder of the modules are also different as they are designed solely for use at UHF and can not be retrofitted in ANY VHF radio, same goes for the P.A module, the pin configurations are different as well, plus there are no 2-pole filters in a UHF Saber like there are in VHF ones.
Many of the modules may look the same, but they are not.
The main controller boards are also different, and can not be swapped from band to band, they MUST be used in their appropriate band.
VHF to VHF.......UHF to UHF only.
The front shield/memory CAN be used on ANY standard Saber...be it a model I, II or III, but standard models only, they can NOT be used with ANY Systems models of any configuration...I, II or III.
NEVER attempt to program a Systems Saber with Saber RSS, you'll brick the radio!
Pretty much the same for a standard Saber programmed with systems RSS....but it is recoverable with the standard models, but the same does not hold true for the systems models.
Programming cables for standard Sabers will work on all of the following radios:
Saber I
Saber II
Saber III
Systems Sabers...ALL models.
Saber 'R' series....ALL models...( same as standard Sabers )
Anything 'ASTRO' labeled will NOT work on ANY saber, Systems, standard or 'R' series....DO NOT EVEN TRY!
Same goes for the RSS.....NO!
