Recommendation for Saber professional shop.

I have a nice Saber III that I bricked. All segments are lit and it will not take a code plug. It's a long story, but basically I got it screwed up, and I proceeded to screw it up more attempting to fix it.

Anyway, it is now beyond my capability, as I do not have Lab software, alignment instruments or the stuff you need to power it up outside the case.

Can anyone recommend a good Motorola shop that can fix this radio reasonably? I have other radios and business for them as well, but this saber is the most pressing.

As of January 1 Motorola will no longer work on Sabers. Many parts are starting to dry up.

most shops around here stopped working on sabers a while ago and if you could even get motorola to work on it you will have alot of explaining to do. actually replacement of the whole radio would be cheaper than the flat rate repair bill.

I do not repair Sabers here, but I have had Ernest repair several Sabers for me, as well as for some of my freinds.

So I can recomend: AEC ( on the BB)

I would just go out and buy a Saber ONE of the same split, VHF or UHF , and transfer the display and case. Load up a codeplug or creat one for your needs. The only alignment is to set the frequency, with RSS, and a counter for that.

Simple, cheap, and dirty.

There's a bit more to *properly* aligning the radio. Especially if you're going to be running secure.

There was NO mention of a Secure radio, so I did not bring up alignment
procedures for that Option. On Saber radios I have worked on, Frequency
adjustment was the most common. I did not have to get into modulation or power adjustments often.
Alignment of secure radios does take a little more time and T&M gear.

This poor guy just wants to get his Saber III up and going. I listed my quick and dirty way to solve his problem. The procedure works for about 90% of Saber radios I have worked on.

I did the same operation recently. Got an S3 case and shield
from a 403 mHz radio and slapped it on a 440 mHz Saber I.
Dump in the S3 codeplug, check the frequency, and off you go.
And this WAS a Securenet setup but I don't use it.
