MTS2000 VHF PROGRAMMING QCII PROBLEM

Post by millerchief »

I have several MTS2000 VHF Units (48 channel)that I need to put QCII into them and I can't get it to add the signalling system. I see it, but it is grayed out. It has MDC in BOLD. I tried the DOS MTSX RSS and the MTS200 Windows CPS 1.10 and I still can't get it. Am I missing something. Also are these radios being FLASHPORT Units able to upgraded for narrowband and for the signalling issue.

if it's greyed out the radio is not capable of that task. and yes, if they are flashports they can be upgraeded to narrow band. have you tried to change the channel spacing, it may already be able to do narrow.

I tried to set it for 12.5 and it told me it to upgrade, Motorola shop didn't have anything to upgrade it with said they couldn't find any upgrades for it and tried to sell new radio, Any idea on what I need to flash it. Firmware is 0001-000000-00009, I'm not sure about all the 0's, but the 1 and 9 are in the correct places.

sounds like your radios are flashed for H38 Smartzone, these were NOT capable of MDC or QC-II, it has to be re-flashed

They were used during the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and had the ecryption boards in them. I think you are right about the H38. When I press the botom side button 5 times I think I remember the H38 coming up before to 1 and 9 version.

If memory serves me right, it will have to be sent back to the depot to be reflashed

most local shops don't have a smartrib to flash those radios. plus you have to fill out an application for each one of them to be updated and send the app to motorola. it's gonna cost a couple hundred each to get them to do what you want but after that they will be like new.

If I recall, the QCII upgrade is around $100.

You shouldn't really have that much trouble doing a large number of radios if a dealer helps you out.

his dealer didn't sound too good, all he wanted to do is sell him new radios. i'd find a better shop.

What you need is the H169 flash package to get QCII. Like said before, it is around $100-135. By the looks of that flashcode, all you have is H35 conventional. It would be no problem adding QCII to your unit. If your end up not getting it from your local dealer, drop me a PM. And just for the record.... you can have an MTS2000 with an H38 system package, and still have MDC and QCII operate on the conventional side of the radio.
