Two tools you should order with your next MOL drop

Post by batdude »

Item Number. 6685833D01
TOOL REMOVAL XTS

this one is about $4. Prevents cracking the bottom of the XTS 3k/5k because you used a screwdriver instead of this tool.

6680334E07 Jedi radio opening tool

this one is about $30, but does the same thing....

priceless when you don't crack the bottom of the radio housing taking it off.....

Whats the difference between the two? I would rather spend $4.00 but if the $30.00 tool is more robust I will get that. I just dont want to spend more money and find out I could have gotten something very similar for less money.

i've never seen the jedi tool... other than a pic in a manual. it looked like a modified screwdriver.

the xts tool is a little piece of angled plastic, looks like a clip for keeping your doritos from getting stale.

i don't think you should interchange the two, they use similar but different retention devices....

Well, the Jedi radio opening tool (above), is just a FAT plastic screwdriver that did not seem to work in anyway that justified it's cost. I returned them to M for my money back....., and built mine.

I used thin hard stainless steel cut about .92" wide and tapered to SLIDE inbetween the latch tab and the frame. Two slots or "notches" were also cut to clear the catches so as to not wear them off the latch tab.

I've opened over two dozen Jedis now using the corner of a $1 K-Mart steel ruler. It's made of very tough stainless steel, and it's thin enough to get under the latch without moving it far enough to crack the case like the shaft of a screwdriver can.
