Motorola Waris Replacement LCD Screen

Post by losangelescop »

hey all,

just browsing ebay and found this radio...everything apparently works...except for the LCD screen which is all busted and the screen is just a bright shade of purple because of it. was thinking it would be a cheap bargain and i could have a fix-up project to do, but seing as i dont repair radios or know anything about repairing radios, its a potential disaster (if i even choose to bid on it at all)...just looking for some advice on whether this is a reasonable idea or a bad idea..note that i do not have heaps of money just lying around to fix it with. can you get replacement LCD screens by themselves, and are they easy to install, also whats the approx cost of one, or does anybody have a spare one lying around??? some installation instructions would be good aswell. note this is a Waris series radio, an MTX960..heres the link...

as i mentioned above, i don't know much in regards to the technical side of radios, i just use Motorola radios and love Motorola radios, lol. therefore please write ur responses so that an idiot could understand them :P also somewhere on this forum i have posted another thread about how to install a refurbishment kit to Motorola Waris Series radios, plz go to that thread and tell me how its done in there if you can.

thanks 4 ur help ppl :)

i'm not positive but i don't think that radio is capable of mdc or QCII. and you might have trouble getting it programmed over here in the states. and since it's an over seas radio you're taking a chance that your local dealer won't work on it or may confenscate it. if that is the only problem then you can order the whole replacement housing with the display in it because that one is pretty beat up and just replace it yourself, it's pretty easy.

i live in australia, so the radio programming or the fact that its an australian radio isnt a problem for me..........do the replacement housings come with new LCD panels or just the clear plastic window that covers the LCD Panel, because the panel is busted and if i got this radio it would need the refurbishment kit (replacement housing) and a new LCD panel...does anyone know the answer to this??? thanks.......

Fix-up radio...

As a rule, Motorola radio LCD displays sold as parts are not
cheap, plus there could be even worse things wrong with
this particular radio. Unless you already have a good 960
and would use this one for parts I would pass on this deal.
