Spectra chassis lock removal
Can any one tell me how to remove the lock from a high power spectra chassis. Im putting my radio into a new chassis and cannot get the lock out. (I have the right key) THNAKS!
Re: Spectra chassis lock removal
The common 2135 key should open that lock.
Is it not turning or hard to put the key in? Try some WD-40 as
a way of freeing up the pins inside the lock.
You might also have too much pressure on the lock from the
bottom plate. Try forcing or pushing the radio to the front or
rear. You can try pushing the radio towards the rear away from
the cables and see if you can then rotate the lock.
You can't gain access to the lock from the top cover. You need
to do it from the bottom of the radio. If it is still mounted to
the mounting plate, your SOL.
Next option, as a last resort, is to drill out the lock. Problem
with that, is your liable to do damage to the radio in the process.

I've never seen one, but...
Most lock cylinders are held in place with a threaded nut or some form of spring clip from the back. You may have to remove the locking mechanism from the cylinder; usually one nut or screw holds it to the back of the cylinder.
There may be a set-screw holding the cylinder in place, so look for small holes perpendicular to the cylinder, or maybe on the inside of the front panel casting. Also, look at, or feel the casting for a slight dimple which might be a plug that fills the hole where the set-screw is hiding. You may have to carefully drill this plug out.
Any metal plate behind the cylinder would need to be removed, of course. Follow the locking mechanism from where it fits into the base plate back towards the cylinder and remove anything you can, carefully. Of course, all of this is just common mechanical ingenuity.
Perhaps in hindsight, it might have been easier (although not cheaper) to buy the chassis with the lock mechanism. But since Motorola sold you the chassis without it, there must be a way to transfer or at least install a lock into it.
