Converting a T3011CX to a DX

Post by saintarctangent »

Picked up a CX off ebay. I understand these can be converted to a DX. Any tips on how to do it?

Yep, find the right firmware chip and drop it in.

DO NOT ask for that firmware here, lest you end up with a tag under your user ID.

You lost me. I can update the KVL with a chip, but I can't ask where to get it?

Pay no attention to the paranoid. You can purchase the required chip from Motorola... I believe it runs 150 or so. He just means don't ask for the bin file on here.

The upgrade firmware was EOLed long ago, as far as I know...

For the OP, the point is, the bin file is Motorola proprietary. It's regarded just the same as RSS. People have ended up violating the rules of the board by asking for it, assuming that was OK since it wasn't RSS. Just a little tip.

I purchased the kit you need at the Miami Hamfest last year for $35. Came with 2 chips & instructions. I was going from BX to DX. Look around. You'll find one. Good luck. GARY N4KVE

The only thing i have to disagree with there is that since it's no longer available legally then one has to do what one has to do.

Copyrighted material, so on and so forth. Don't post just to tell me about the rules, i understand, but i also understand that if Motorola isn't selling it and you need it, then do what you can, just don't do it here since plenty of people get huffy about it.

There is still some of the upgrade kits floating around out there that Gary mentioned, if your going from AX or BX to a DX then you need both the firmware and the EEprom, but if your going from CX to DX then it already has the larger EEprom and you just need the firmware to upgrade it.

Good luck finding one of those original kits though, i think i have only seen one listed on here in all the years i have been a member. And i saw one on eBay once, that was a year or two ago. Most of them got used rather than sat aside to be found later.
